I set up the site www.PublicLiability-Insurance.com.au a couple of days ago as one of my tests. Unlike my previous tests, which usually start having a presence quickly, often the next day, this one hasn't shown much progress. The site is visible to Google because I can search for "www.PublicLiability-Insurance.com.au" and the site appears in the search results, but if I search for "public liability insurance" the site doesn't appear in the first 600 results.
It is always interesting watching these tests. If you're performing your own SEO keep in mind you need to be patient. Don't keep changing things as Google may not see those changes. Google scans your site based on its own schedule and any change you make may not be seen by Google, if you make additional changes before Google sees the change.
What I suggest is first check the cached date for the site. Make the change to your site and then wait until a couple of days to a week after Google next scans your site and the cached date is updated. Then check your site's position in Google's results. Patience really is a virtue when it comes to SEO.
It may seem crazy that I'd share some of this information. JustLocal is an advertising service and yet I'm letting people know about SEO I'm doing relating to Google. How does that make sense?
First we have to be realistic. Google is where many people have their focus right now. Second JustLocal is about helping small businesses to prosper and if that includes getting a better presence in Google from what I do, then that's achieving the desired outcome. Finally JustLocal has been built so Google is not relevant to how JustLocal assists local businesses. All that is important is local people know about and start using their local postcode page on JustLocal. No searching. No spending countless hours and often huge expense on search engine optimisation, or paying for ads that often get little to no return. Simply making local more visible and getting locals to support each other. However people aren't used to supporting each other locally at this point. I know they want to, but our society has evolved where those with the deepest pockets for advertising get the business. JustLocal will take time before the community fully benefits, so until then we all need to do what we can to assist small business to prosper.
By sharing the tests I perform, one outcome I didn't really think about is you get to know the time and effort involved. Setting up a single test site and optimising that site for SEO, if you need to pay someone else, will most likely cost you hundreds of dollars. That testing has no guaranteed outcome and the money spent is gone. JustLocal offers a money-back guarantee. If you don't get business to the value of your advertising then simply ask for your money back before the advertising expires. However I'm not just aiming to get you business, I'm also asking you to give your business to other local businesses so we all help each other. My belief is we all gain by helping each other. I'm not here to simply gain at the expense of others as so many advertising services I've used in the past has done to me. That to me isn't right.
Helping local business prosper.
